Reader Laura on the Lindsay Lohan Trout Pout

August 10th, 2010

Reader Question:

Lindsay Lohan seems to have developed the “trout pout” once again. I always wonder why these celebrities seem to think this looks good.

The real question is what looks good. It sounds like a silly question but whereas some people want to look natural others want to look “supernatural” in the area of lip fillers just like breast implants. I posted a conservative lip filler “Before and After” on the blog a few years ago and many readers could not tell the difference. They were likely used to seeing much larger Trout Pout lips.

I give patients a mirror when I do lip injections so they can tell me how much they want. Some patients end up with a partially saved syringe for later and for others we use it all.

As usual, it is all relative.

BTW – One of the Daily Mail readers likely had it right. Collagen is rarely used these days. It is far more likely Lilo had one of the hyaluronic acid-based products injected.

Disfigured By Fillers

July 30th, 2009

Daily Mail

[T]he British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) published statistics revealing that almost a quarter of their members had seen patients for surgery to correct problems caused by permanent fillers – injectable gels used to add volume to the face and, more recently, the body.

Permanent fillers are dangerous. Silicone gel was the prototypical “permanent filler.” No responsible plastic surgeons of whom I know offer it to their clients.

The good and the bad about the safe soft tissue fillers is that they don’t last too long. The newer Hyaluronic acid fillers (Hylaform, Restylane, Captique, Prevelle and the like)  are probably the safest we have seen to date. They have the fewest reactions and problems, but last only a few months.

Stay away from permanent fillers.

Britney Spears and Well Done Lip Filler

October 22nd, 2007

Source

Britney Spears seems to have fresh, but well done lip filler here. It always appears a bit funny right after it is done. This is probably just a few days old. Something has to go well for her. She has had a hell of a time.

Britney Spears and her escape from Facial Fillers Video

October 19th, 2007

Apparently Britney Spears was seen leaving a Beverly Hills medical building and was covering her lips. The paparazzi here better document their feet than Britney’s lips. Does anybody have better images? It is hard to critique the amount injected without a good image. Maybe she had it done well?

Lip Fillers Story and I disagree – a surprise?

January 23rd, 2006

NBC San Diego.Com Story

Soft tissue fillers are helpful to a certain extent in the average case. For one, the absorbable ones (Restylane, Captique, Hylaform, Collagen, etc) really don’t last very long. This story says up to six months. It is probably 1/3 to 1/2 of that in the average patient.

The more permanent methods can be really scary as you age. Goretex, in my not-so-humble opinion, belongs in ski jackets and not your lips. I have seen a case or two in which it got infected and it put a serious mark on the patient’s appearance. This story is a bit too rosy for my tastes, but you can read it all the same.

Lip Fillers – Hylaform – A Modest Enlargement

August 9th, 2005

The most common Lip Fillers (Restylane, Hylaform, Captique) are all composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in skin. They pretty much give equivalent results.

While we have all seen the freakish outcomes in celebrities, here is the other side with a modest enlargement. This patient was injected twice two weeks apart with about half a single unit each time to get the results you see a week after the second injection. She had no bruising and was out and about the evening after each injection. There is swelling that resolves, but in modest enlargements, no trout and no fat lip.
