Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream with Human Breast Milk? Poll

Source: time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1844721,00.html

The unpredictable wackos at PETA have stated that they want Ben and Jerry’s to use human breast milk in their ice cream. While I believe this is probably a publicity stunt (and as such is pretty clever,) I thought we’d put it to a vote with this poll.

Today’s Poll Question:

Would you eat Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream if they used Human Breast Milk Therein?

The poll is here.

P.S. Have any of you ever tasted human breast milk?

OctoMom Out of her Web?

Nadya Suleman may be out on the streets with her 14 kids. TMZ has documents showing the house she’s living in could go on the auction block because the mortgage hasn’t been paid in 10 months.

Octo and the little spiderkids may be out in the street unless she can pull a socialist hat trick. Maybe she needs to get on the horn to Mr Obama?

Why Do Americans Buy BS?

Would someone like to explain to me why Americans do willingly buy BS? Our President has catapulted the national debt into territory so large that Congress will need to change the law to allow it. We seemingly accept it.

In my little corner of the world, I am reviewing more cases of proposed wrongdoing in Plastic Surgery for the California Medical Board than I ever have before. The common denominator is BS. The doctors I am reviewing seem to be shoveling it at increasing rates. And their clientele buys it.

I have explained before the ways you can check out a plastic surgeon. Are any of you actually doing this?

No relief: Shortage keeps older docs on the job

Source: msnbc.msn.com/id/31507763/ns/health-health_care

JoNel Aleccia writes a piece that addresses some of the real issues but leaves out some others. What are some other reasons that docs can’t retire?

(1) Losses from divorce put us back on retirement savings.

(2) Profit margins in medicine have fallen to the extent that we don’t make what we used to make.

(3) We are taxed at a higher rate than ever relative to what we actually get to take home.

(4) Recruiting is difficult because younger docs want guaranteed time off and a guaranteed salary. Private practice gives you neither. Rural solo private practice (like that of the doc in the story) is risky income-wise and brutal in the working hours department. Docs are becoming aware that working like a slave doesn’t pay, so why do it? Many of us feel that we have put in over a decade in education only to find ourselves unappreciated and under rewarded for that time.

(5) Retirement accounts have fallen substantially in the economic downturn putting off retirement for people close to retirement a few years ago.

At one time a doctor didn’t need to be a good businessman to make a living and retire. Those times are gone.

Right Mastectomy Without Plastic Surgery

After mastectomy breast reconstruction can be challenging. Then again the alternative is here for you to see. This woman has a mastectomy defect of her right breast and her left breast had had a cosmetic implant years prior. She elected to not reconstruct her mastectomy-treated breast and was considering surgery on the other side to make it smaller. There is no one treatment for a patient after a mastectomy. It is a matter of that patient’s philosophy. Mastectomy without reconstruction doesn’t look all that appealing.

When some think to complain about plastic surgery complications after breast reconstruction, consider this alternative.

Miguel Torres Head Wound Closure

Miguel Torres is a fighter who got a burst injury to his forehead reportedly when elbowed. This was obviously not closed by a plastic surgeon:

Gruesome Picture Alert

The running suture closed under tension is the sign of a non plastic surgeon. That is going to scar.

Cheryl Cole, Hair Extensions and False Advertising?

Jezebel posits a false advertising claim against L’Oreal. Apparently Cheryl Cole their spokeswomen has hair extensions.

Well Earth to complainers: advertising deceives on a basic level. This is no more deceiving than bra commercials with implanted breasts.

It’s tough telling the truth, but someone has to do it.

California on an Economical Death Spiral While Texas Grows?

The American

First, Texans on average believe in laissez-faire markets with an emphasis on individual responsibility. Since the ’80s, California’s policy-makers have favored central planning solutions and a reliance on a government social safety net. This unrelenting commitment to big government has led to a huge tax burden and triggered a mass exodus of jobs. The Trends Editors examined the resulting migration in “Voting with Our Feet,” in the April 2008 issue of Trends.

Second, Californians have largely treated environmentalism as a “religious sacrament” rather than as one component among many in maximizing people’s quality of life. As we explained in “The Road Ahead for Housing,” in the June 2009 issue of Trends, environmentally-based land-use restriction centered in California played a huge role in inflating the recent housing bubble. Similarly, an unwillingness to manage ecology proactively for man’s benefit has been behind the recent epidemic of wildfires.

Third, California has placed “ethnic diversity” above “assimilation,” while Texas has done the opposite. “Identity politics” has created psychological ghettos that have prevented many of California’s diverse ethnic groups and subcultures from integrating fully into the mainstream. Texas, on the other hand, has proactively encouraged all the state’s residents to join the mainstream.

Fourth, beyond taxes, diversity, and the environment, Texas has focused on streamlining the regulatory and litigation burden on its residents. Meanwhile, California’s government has attempted to use regulation and litigation to transfer wealth from its creators to various special-interest constituencies.

Very succinct and I believe correct.
