South Korean Fencer Dropped From Team After Plastic Surgery
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on January 29, 2006
South Korean fencing authorities have reduced the suspension imposed on one of the country’s top fencers who was dropped from the team for two years for undergoing plastic surgery. Nam Hyun-hee, a foil fencer, had cosmetic surgery in December on her eyes to fix a problem that meant her eyelashes were bothering her vision, fencing officials said. Along with the eye surgery, she also decided to have a little work done on her cheeks to increase their size, they said. Ms Nam had been dropped from the national team for missing training because of her surgery and not informing the proper authorities about the procedure, South Korean fencing officials said.

This South Korean fencer was suspended from the team after missing practice after having plastic surgery. Apparently a team member also needs to inform the team management about the procedure. It would be a shame if she missed olympic level competition because of it.

Florida Fake Botox Story
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on January 26, 2006
An effort to slow the aging clock left a Florida couple seemingly older and sicker than ever — and started investigators on the trail of a company selling a knockoff of the anti-wrinkle treatment Botox. Chiropractor Eric Kaplan and his wife, Bonnie, say they were given what they thought were Botox injections just before Thanksgiving by Bach McComb, an Florida osteopath that Kaplan knew professionally. (Related: 219 doctors purchase Botox knockoff) Prosecutors now say McComb had bought botulinum toxin directly from a California company, then failed to dilute it adequately with saline before injecting the Kaplans, himself and a co-worker at the medical clinic where he worked. Investigators now say that Tucson-based Toxin Research International and its subsidiaries were making an unapproved version of Botox by purchasing Botulinum toxin for just under $10 a vial from List Biological Laboratories in California and selling it to doctors as a wrinkle treatment for $1,250 a vial during 2003 and 2004.

So the doctor in Florida got the toxin from a company in California called “List Biological Laboratories.” I had not heard of them until I later reviewed a case for the Medical Board in California. The injured people are going after them in court. Allergan lucked out on this one as from what I read the “illegal” stuff worked at the proper dilution.

UK Cheap Plastic Surgery Market in Pakistan
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on January 23, 2006
A growing number of well-educated, British-born Asian women in their 20s are combining annual visits to relatives in Pakistan with cut-price, nip-and-tuck operations, surgeons say. “But if you are going abroad to have surgery, there is a danger. One in 10 cases of nose reshaping and one in five cases of liposuction require additional work for up to six months, such as an adjustment to the tip of a nose. The patients would need to go back to the surgeon and this work would normally be carried out for free, as it would be part of the package.”

Asian women in their twenties are traveling to Pakistan for their discount plastic surgery. At least the piece talks about a bit of the risk element. We have Mexico and they have Pakistan.

Jenny McCarthy – Too Much Botox?
Posted by admin in celebrity plastic surgery on January 17, 2006
The Golden Globes featured some celebrities with some plastic surgery on display. Teri Hatcher and Jenny McCarthy featured foreheads that don’t move much courtesy of a little Botulinum I’d wager. A little less next time ladies.

Arnold Schwarzenegger crashes Motorcycle – Lip Cut
Posted by admin in Medicine in the News on January 10, 2006
Arnold Schwarzenegger wiped out on his motorcycle and ended up at St John’s in Santa Monica for sutures reports have it. Anybody know if he let the ER doc do the honors or did he call a plastic surgeon? I’d bet they called for plastics.
