Simona Halep Breast Reduction?
Posted by admin in celebrity plastic surgery on December 30, 2009
This 17-year-old Romanian Tennis Star reportedly has been considering or has already had breast reduction surgery.
Large breasts can get in the way for active women and breast reduction surgery can improve their athletic performance. The images above of Ms Halep playing tennis before surgery show that a reduction is a reasonable option to improve her tennis game. It might also reduce her chances of developing back pain as she grows older.

Kourtney Kardashian and Kendra Wilkinson: Breast implants and Breast-feeding
Posted by admin in breast implant pre-op tutorial, celebrity plastic surgery on December 28, 2009
“Both Kourtney Kardashian and Kendra Wilkinson have had breast implants. Can they still breast-feed?”
Kourtney Kardashian, for the record, is finally happy with implants she got when she was younger, and that took her from a B cup to a C cup. Kendra Wilkinson has said she worked two jobs at age 18 to get her implants. But can they breast-feed now that they have birthed Mason and Hank IV respectively? Well……sure, plastic surgeons say. For the most part. In the overall population, about 15 percent of women who have children simply cannot breast-feed, regardless of breast alterations

The subject of breastfeeding and breast implants comes up frequently. Suffice it to say that many women with implants breastfeed without problems. Some have problems and it is debatable as to whether or not they were caused by the implant surgery.
Breast implant surgery can be planned to limit potential problems by avoiding the periareolar incision and limiting implant size. This is something to discuss with your surgeon before surgery of course.

Chinese Officials Seem To Like Plastic Surgery
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on December 28, 2009
China.org reports that men in China are a much larger part of the plastic surgery clientele than men are in America.
Statistics show that in recent years, the number of males undergoing plastic surgery has doubled in China, with the number of officials undergoing plastic surgery increasing steadily.
Cultures do differ on this stuff. This may be a part of yet another Chinese revolution.

Matt Dillon: Good Genes or Good Docs?

TMZ asks “Good Genes or Good Docs?”

Matt Dillon looks pretty good for a man in his early forties. I don’t see much in the way of plastic surgery here. You don’t read that very often here do you?

Amanda Holden is “over Botox”
Posted by admin in celebrity plastic surgery on December 24, 2009
Daily Mail reports that Amanda Holden is “over Botox:”
‘I haven’t had Botox for eight or nine months and when I’m out in LA, I think about it even less,’ she said.
‘It puts me off when I see people out there. Everyone looks the same and it’s quite grotesque.
People do tend to use too much locally. Less Botulinum toxin frequently leads to more natural looking results.

Droopy Eyelid Fix for Too Much Botox?
A patient of mine e-mailed recently. She lives kinda far from me so she goes to a local doc (a general practitioner) for Botox. She got more than usual for her forehead and nasal root (for the look of consternation I’d predict) and now she has a droopy eyelid.
Her doc put her on Apraclonidine drops and she e-mailed asking how long can she be on them safely. She reports that fortunately they seem to be helping.
Apraclonidine is a drug that compensates for the weakened eyelid opening muscle by tightening it chemically. As the droopy eyelid problem usually only last a few weeks she can probably be on them for that period of time without harm.
The lesson to be learned is to take it easy on the amount of botulinum toxin you have injected and consider that you might have more risk going to a non-plastic surgeon. I am not a fan of doing full foreheads and have only had one temporary eyelid droop in ten years of using these products.

Reader Question: Scar Improvement
Posted by admin in scar surgery on December 22, 2009
Reader Question:
Is there anything to do for white pigmented scars post surgery, do they usually resolve themselves? Is cortisone cream helpful? Also a small strip of skin going down from incision has turned whiter, perhaps from tension?
You have several issues here:
(1) Pigment – The color of scar tissue and normal skin is different. Trauma and bleeding in the tissues can also introduce color changes. The lack of pigment is a white color which is probably scar (if you are Caucasian.) If this area is wide you might be a candidate for a scar revision.
(2) Timing / Non Operative Care- Scars do improve over the first year or so after the wounding that caused them to form. They do so better if kept out of the sun or if sun screens are applied. Silicone sheeting and/or massage can be helpful as well as the scar matures or remodels.
(3) Tension – Tension usually does not cause long term color changes in a scar unless there is quite a bit of it.
(4) Steroids – Steroid creams are not always helpful. I would avoid them unless professional advice recommends their use.
It sounds like you need an evaluation to figure your next best move.

Lara Stone is not Fat
Posted by admin in Other Celebrity News on December 20, 2009
Black Book Mag reports that model Lara Stone doesn’t want to be fat anymore.
She looks pretty thin to me, but models traditionally look to me like they need something to eat. Size 4 is thin to most of us, but in modeling it is a size or two larger than the usual size 0-1.
Modeling is a business.

Botax Out; Now Tanning Tax?
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on December 19, 2009
Bloomberg is reporting today that the Botax might be dead in the new Senate Health Care Bill, but they currently plan on increasing Medicare taxes to high wage earners and taxing indoor tanning.
The Feds are coming for more taxes. They just haven’t figured out who they can tax with the least risk (to their jobs.)
