DIY Botox Video
Posted by admin in plastic surgery clip on June 30, 2010
This video must be from the Botox bust we saw recently. This is for entertainment purposes only as I do not recommend you do this unless you are a nurse or doctor (in which case you don’t need the video really do you.) This gal recommends you use a ton of Botox.

Reader Question – Botox in a Spa by Non-Plastic Surgeon?
Reader’s Comment:
I have been getting my wrinkle tox injection by a nurse (I think) at a spa in a mall nearby my home. Is this safe?
The reality is that simple cosmetic procedures are happening everywhere. The quality of injectors varies substantially. What they are injecting varies too. As long as they don’t go overboard and are using quality material, the risks are pretty low. Some injectors kinda go nuts though and others are not using enough toxin or the right toxin. Some don’t have the best technique. You should ask who is doing the injecting and what training he or she has had. Not knowing what kind of professional is injecting your face is scary.
Suffice it to say there is more risk when you go to an inexperienced or untrained injector. It will likely be cheaper, but you will have to accept that risk in trade for the lower price tag. I usually advise that people find an injector with whom they have had good results and stay there.

Katie Price – More Breast Surgery
Posted by admin in breast implant pre-op tutorial, celebrity plastic surgery on June 29, 2010
IDLYITW posted on Katie Price who has by report had more breast surgery. They also posit that she has had some lip filler. They assume that she wants to look natural. I doubt that she does. She wants media attention and gets it.
We have discussed here how to make your breast implant surgery less of a “revolving door project.” The women that like implants on the larger side simply get more surgery. This is just the nature of larger breast implants.
Larger Breast Implants + Weight Gain / Pregnancy = More Surgery / Breast Lifts

Reader Laura on Age and Satisfaction with Cosmetic Surgery
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on June 29, 2010
Reader Laura’s Comment:
“This story talks about older patients having more satisfaction with their surgery results than their younger counterparts. Do you think this is because they might have more realistic expectations of their surgery? Have you experienced the same thing in your practice?”
In the study, Hessler’s team surveyed 51 patients who underwent facial cosmetic surgery in 2007 and 2008. The participants answered more questions several months after their procedures.Patients older than 53 were more satisfied with their results than younger people, perhaps because older patients are more realistic, the study authors suggested. In addition, people who were being treated for depression tended to report more satisfaction than those who were not undergoing treatment for depression.

This is pretty much what I see. Often times, younger patients require more care on the surgeon’s end planning the surgery and talking to set expectations. They tend to think differently than older patients.
Older patients have more life experience and tend to take things in stride. They also tend to have more things to “fix” and usually can see the changes better. There are always aspects of personality that affect these things as well. It is not like younger patients are bad patients. They are just different.

Georgia Woman Loses Breast To Spider
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on June 25, 2010
A woman from Paulding County Georgia was rushed to the hospital, and awoke to find out that she was in ICU and had lost her left breast, but it was not cancer which caused Victoria Franklin to need a double mastectomy, it was a spider bite! Franklin is recovering from the major surgery after being bitten by the brown recluse somewhere in her home.
Breast loss requiring reconstruction due to causes other than cancer is unusual but not unheard of. Brown recluse spiders can cause large volume tissue loss and leave devastating wounds.

A Promotion Patient Before Her Breast Augmentation
Posted by admin in plastic surgery clip on June 25, 2010
I did this case a few months ago. This is a brief clip before her surgery. I recently saw the television spot (for German Television,) and I am not in much of it. Oh, well. Maybe I should call it the promotion that really didn’t promote much.
LOL.

Breasts Too Small Lawsuit?
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on June 25, 2010
Daily Record Story – link expired and removed
A case in New Jersey claims a plastic surgeon made a patient’s breasts too small in breast reduction “like a mastectomy.” I do not know many of the details here, but apparently the patient had wound complications. This could be a major contributing factor to a poor aesthetic outcome.
Then again Dr Richard Marfuggi has had two large malpractice settlements in the last year for $195,000 and $350,000. Just check the New Jersey Medical Board’s web site physician search.
There is no information as to whether she smoked or not.

Don’t Want Your Breast Implants Anymore? – Have Them Out
In the office we have had a noticeable increase in requests for breast implant removal without replacement. Women are naturally concerned about what things will look like afterward and this does vary quite a bit.
Not everyone needs or wants a breast lift afterward. If the patient’s implants are not too large and are saline-filled, often the operation is quite simple and leaves nice results. On the other hand, old silicone gel implants or their remnants can leave a mess in there. This can require more surgery to repair.

Crazy Phone Call of the Week
Posted by admin in Dr D reactions on June 22, 2010
Last week we had a few really hilarious phone calls, but the funniest person was one who I had seen for a cosmetic consult six months prior. She called to inform us that she had seen some other surgeons after seeing me and their surgical fees for liposuction were lower. Lisa, my office gal, had a look on her face that I really should have photographed as she spoke with this lady.
The woman went on to say she really wants me to do her surgery but has decided to only have liposuction and not liposuction along with laser re-surfacing. She then proceeded to tell us how she was going to have it for a fraction of that which we originally quoted by giving herself a multiple procedure discount (without multiple procedures) and eliminating anesthesia fees by having it under local.
While I understand that cosmetic surgery is expensive, it is laughable to think that any reputable surgeon will comply with a phone call of this sort. It makes little sense to defend my fee structure to a woman like this, but there are many types of doctors who perform liposuction including dermatologists, gynecologists and other non-plastic surgeons. These doctors tend to offer it for less. Then again they tend to do it in their offices with poor equipment and lighting. They did not attend residency programs to train them how to operate. Maybe our caller went to the emergency doctor down the street. He got tired of getting paid nothing for heart attacks so he opened a place and is doing cosmetic work. He is cheap.
