Stretched Earlobe Plug Repairs – Not Your Regular Earlobe Tear
I see patients for earlobe repairs pretty commonly especially since I put some pictures online including a ear plug wound I fixed a few years ago.
Recently I saw a nice young gal with a really stretched ear lobe from wearing plugs. They were so large I had to figure new ways to close them and they will not look a nicely as smaller plug holes I have fixed in the past.
The Moral Of This Story: If you wear ear plugs, either plan on keeping the holes or try to keep the plugs to the less than gigantic size.

E-mailed Comment – Over 1000 cc Breast Implants and Overfilling
Posted by admin in breast implant pre-op tutorial on November 29, 2010

I’m friends with a few local plastic surgeons. With regard to the larger implant sizes, I recall from your past posts that you aren’t a fan but recognize the interest some women have with them. ‘Custom’ implants are pretty-much a thing of the past, but there are good alternatives. For one thing, an Allergen or Inamed implant can be overfilled as much as 10 times before bursting. So my point is – overfilling an 800 or 850cc implant by 4 times it’s rating is still fairly ‘safe’ in-terms of the actual device. Yes, the patient’s particular physiology is another matter altogether. But my (now ex) significant other had 800cc-rated implants overfilled to 1900cc’s without incident to the device, and a friend of ours had some overfilled to 3000cc’s. Later ‘fills’ can be handily accommodated to facilitate making the implants larger, under local anesthesia. Our friend was implanted at 1100cc’s, and had subsequent ‘fills’ of these ‘standard’ implants to 1600, 1900, 2100, 2400 and finally 3000 – in the aforementioned manner.
Liability is one of the the main regulatory forces within medicine. You might recall the World’s largest breast implant patient went to Brazil to get her surgery as she reportedly couldn’t find a US surgeon to do it.
Although you describe a pretty good experience with overfilling breast implants in such a large way, the question is what would happen if the implants were to rupture? The manufacturers state that over filling beyond their stated tolerance voids the warranty. If they were to rupture or require additional surgery, the patient would be on the hook for the cost. At this size the potential to need further surgery for problems at some point would be essentially 100%. This is part explains the relative scarcity of docs who will “go that big.”
I am a big believer in the right of a patient to do that which she wants with her body, but don’t want to end up in court. This like many things in medicine is a matter of a doctor’s own philosophy. I would need a specially-worded consent form for a case like this if I agreed to do it. lol.

Little Boy’s Plastic Surgery Money Stolen
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on November 28, 2010
A heartless thief is believed to have crashed a fund-raiser and made off with a bag of cash meant to help a city firefighter pay for life-changing surgery for his 9-year-old son. But feisty little Aidan Sullivan — who was born with a facial defect and no right ear — yesterday put up a brave front, with a message for the crook: “I’m going to kick your butt!” “I want to look normal,” said Aidan, whose dad, Tim, is a Bronx firefighter. The Brewster third-grader has hemifacial microsoma, in which one half of the face doesn’t develop correctly.

Hemifacial miscrosomia affects the ear and development of one side of the face. Ear reconstruction usually involves a cartilage framework and multiple stages to stretch out the skin and fine tune the result. Fortunately a charity stepped in to replace the stolen money. We wish Aidan well.

ObamaCare Will Cost You…Lockheed Martin

HOUSTON -(Dow Jones)- Lockheed Martin Corp. estimated that it will take a $96 million charge because of the health-care legislation and expects the charge to reduce per-share earnings by 25 cents in the first quarter.

The health care reform bill will cost us all money. We continue to watch.

Top Searched Acne Treatments
Posted by admin in Medicine in the News on November 28, 2010
Top Searched Acne Treatments on AOL Search:
1. Proactiv
2. Differin
3. Tazorac
4. Benzaclin
5. Retin-A
6. Phisoderm
7. Minocin
8. Vibramycin
9. Zenmed
10. Triaz
“Top Searched” doesn’t mean “best.” Acne needs an individual approach in many patients. Proactiv works well in some patients, but can be over used. For those with sensitive skin, over use can actually make the acne worse.
Retin A works quite well too at the right dose and it went generic recently. Too much or too strong can again make the acne worse with sensitive skin. Low strength generic Retin A will run you 1/3 the $$$$$ and works very well even when used just a few times a week. Don’t use it when you anticipate a good deal of sun exposure in the next day or two as it can make your skin sensitive to sunlight.
Minocin and Vibramycin are antibiotics. Being on them for a long period of time is controversial particularity for the ladies.

Obama’s Health Care Plan – Sad But True (Humor)
Let me get this straight . . . .
We’re going to be “gifted” with a health care
plan we are forced to purchase and
fined if we don’t,
Which purportedly covers at least
ten million more people,
without adding a single new doctor,
but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents,
written by a committee whose chairman
says he doesn’t understand it,
passed by a Congress that didn’t read it but
exempted themselves from it,
and signed by a President who smokes,
with funding administered by a treasury chief who
didn’t pay his taxes,
for which we’ll be taxed for four years before any
benefits take effect,
by a government which has
already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare,
all to be overseen by a surgeon general
who is obese,
and financed by a country that’s broke!!!!!
‘What the hell could
possibly go wrong?’
Deborah Norville – Too Much Botox?
Posted by admin in celebrity plastic surgery on November 26, 2010
Watching Inside Edition recently I saw Deborah Norville and her eyelids and thought maybe she had had too much Botox. Other images of her from the past like the one here reveal this small difference between her eyelids for years now. It’s not always Botox folks. There are other reasons for differences in eyelid opening. Some can be hard to fix. The usual question is whether or not the problem rises to the level of being worth fixing.

Jennifer Grey Nose Job and Career Effects
Posted by admin in celebrity plastic surgery on November 25, 2010
Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey’s Hollywood dreams were shattered after a “nose job from hell” changed her appearance so drastically, she looked nothing like her former self. The 1980s star’s promising career ground to a complete halt overnight in the early 1990s because suddenly nobody recognised her – and even friends would blank her when she bumped into them.
She says, “I went in the operating theatre a celebrity – and come out anonymous. It was like being in a witness protection program or being invisible. I remember going to a restaurant where I had been going for years. I ran into people I knew and would say, ‘Hey.’ Nothing. I’ll always be this once-famous actress nobody recognizes… because of a nose job.”

When I first read this, I thought here’s another celebrity blaming career issues on bad plastic surgery. I figure she might have a point however. It is hard to know of course. She did have a very characteristic look back then. It is conceivable that after her nose job she looked too generic. It wasn’t bad work. It just changed her.

Good SaddleBag Liposuction – Orange County, Ca
Posted by admin in "Good Plastic Surgery in the OC", Dr D's Patients, liposuction pre-op tutorial on November 24, 2010
Good saddlebag liposuction is very popular in Orange County. After pregnancy the “saddlebags,” the sides of the thighs, can become larger. This can be difficult to reduce much even with a good diet and exercise program. Most plastic surgeons pride themselves on their work and I am no exception. Good liposuction does not leave a “moth eaten” appearance.
I treated this young woman in a South Orange County surgery center. The sides of her thighs had bothered her for years affecting choices in bathing wear and other clothes. I performed liposuction of the sides and back of her thighs:
Two months later, the improvement is visible.

Reader Laura on Improving Pete Burns
Posted by admin in plastic surgery news on November 24, 2010
Reader Comment:
“Do you think that Pete Burns is a walking example of a plastic surgery addict? Would you perform any surgery on him? Is there any way to improve the appearance of his lips?”
‘I also have regular peels and Botox. It’s something I’ll always do. People redecorate their homes every few years and I see this as no different. Changing my face is like buying a new sofa.’
Source: dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1325929/Pete-Burns-My-face-fall-Ill-having-plastic-surgery.htm
Peels and Botox would not have done to him what has been done. He has been nipped, tucked and filled into oblivion. You ask what could be done to improve him. First you must ask what he thinks improvement really is. He might like where he is now.
When you go to a plastic surgeon you are looking for a change of a certain type. You hope that your surgeon sees a similar target image as you see. You need to try your best to find a surgeon skilled and philosophically similar to yourself so you have the best chance of having a positive outcome. I wouldn’t have the vaguest idea of what to do with Pete Burns. We are from different ends of the planet on the philosophy of appearance anyway.
