Dr D’s Goodwill Waste Of Time Rant

This last weekend my wife and I drove around aimlessly trying to donate some kid’s bicycles and backyard play furniture to Goodwill. It amazes me how 90% of the people who worked at Goodwill today really knew little or nothing about their company. We were sent to four different locations as the prior location’s employee assured us that although he couldn’t take the items, then next location would.

The next time some idiot gives me a hard time over not donating more often I will remind him of the wasted time spent today trying to give something away.

Best Regards,

We donate to the American Cancer Society. They have pickup centers and they sell the usable stuff at their store. They seem to take everything but electronic equipment.
Any large pieces of usable furniture we donate to Salvation Army, who schedule and come pickup at our house.

Lame. I just take stuff to the Salvation Army, they usually have a giant truck there with a guy.

I donated some suits to the battered women’s shelter and they made it so difficult to do so that I have never repeated the donation, which is unfortunate.

Have you considered calling the Salvation Army or another charity that does pickups? Here the SA will come to my house and pick stuff up. That way while I’m waiting I can do stuff at home (laundry, cleaning, etc.). Just a thought.

BTW – I’ve had issues with Goodwill being unorganized/unprofessional as well so now I donate to others.
