Reader Laura on “New” Lip Implant Procedure

Reader Laura’s Comment:
“Have you heard of doing lip implants this way? If so, have you performed this procedure? What are your thoughts/concerns about this surgery?”

Lip implants that use grafts of muscle and connective tissue from the neck improve patient appearance for at least two years, U.S. researchers report. The study included 25 patients who underwent lip augmentation with their own sternocleidomastoid (a muscle that runs along the side of the neck) and the connective tissue (fasica) that overlies the muscle.

Lip implants have been made of all kinds of different materials. Some have been patient tissue including muscular fascia, skin and fat. This “new technique” isn’t all that exciting and very likely has less longevity than they claim.
