Politicians and regulators should be asking themselves whether a system of massive cash awards to people who may or may not have been adversely affected by Vioxx is a logical, fair or efficient way to run a drug regulatory system. They should also be asking whether juries that scorn medical evidence are the right judges of what information should or should not have been on a
prescription label.

Will lawmakers take notice? I am not so hopeful. We need tort reform or health care will continue to suffer. That’s you and yours my friends. I would also limit prescription costs al la a modified Canadian drug model, so they wouldn’t get off the hook entirely.

be glad you don’t practice in IL where doctors are leaving the state en mass due to malpractice insurance rates.
Interesting read. Unfortunately, many people think that someone is always to blame when medical procedures or drug side affects go wrong, and that they deserve millions of dollars to make wrong into right. No consideration goes into how a won lawsuit will affect the public at large, the group(s) being sued, and those people working for those groups being sued. I don’t know how putting corporations or hospitals out of business is going to help anyone. Should there be consequences for mistakes and wrongdoing? Yes, I think so. Does that mean that we need to award plaintiffs with outrageous sums of money to make an example of a company that screwed up? I’m not sure if that is the way to go. Sadly, I think things will continue to get worse before any tort reform or regulatory measures are introduced to help. I just don’t trust our government to effectively take care of these necessary things. I hope I am wrong, though.
ok, you are redeemed.
one of my favorite Marines is actually a Canadian, so that is two things they did right.

Hey BP,
I just want the limitation aspect of the Canadian drug plan. There should be a price limit to a formulary of drugs particularly the generics. This is one thing the Canadian government does right for its people.

I worked for a company that was bought out by a canadian pharmaceutical company.
if i were to have to choose between spending an hour w/ a hungry python, pissed off man eating tiger or the owner (it was owned by one man) of that company i would probably choose suicide instead.
i don’t see how anything modeled after that could be better then what we have.
No bitterness.
