Reader Question: Redo Tummy Tuck Pictures?

I am looking into a Redo Tummy Tuck here in the OC. Why do you not have redo Tummy Tuck images on your site?

Revision plastic surgery is an uncommon part of a practice’s cases (in the right practice of course,) but a more difficult part of plastic surgery. And tummy tuck surgery is one of the larger scale operations your plastic surgeon can perform.

Because of these issues the results in redo tummy tuck surgery will vary quite a bit. Most surgeons are a bit hesitant to place these kinds of results on their web sites for fear of scaring away the “first time” tummy tuck patients. Even a good revision case result image tends to pale in comparison to an average first time operation in which a complication did not develop.

Suffice it to say that a good deal in the land of plastic surgery relates to impressions.

Good Liposuction Results – A Man Minus Beer Belly :)

Good Liposuction Results are not an expensive laser or an ultrasound gimmick. They are obtained via good judgment and technique. This means choosing the right client and having the integrity to counsel the wrong patient.

Good Liposuction Orange County – Dr D

Here is a young OC man who wanted to jump start his improvement with liposuction. His plan was to follow this with a diet and exercise program. Usually we like doing the plastic surgery after the weight loss. He seemed pretty serious though. The image shows him before and 4 months after liposuction with a nice result.

Good Tummy Tuck Results : In an Athlete

Good tummy tuck results in an athlete can be difficult. The surgery needs to be carefully modified and proscribed specifically in very fit clients. Below is a “Before & After” of an athletic woman who could not lose the loose “pudge” in her tummy. The portion of this extra flab near the panty has been called mother’s apron. The medical term is pannus. This patient did not have a very loose or prominent pannus, but was bothered by it. Although she was quite fit, she came wondering whether an “athlete tummy tuck” might be beneficial.

Upon examination, a belly button hernia was also found with a lot of muscular wall thinning nearby. This was likely a derivative of child bearing. A tummy tuck with abdominal hernia repair was performed and at 5 months she was pleased.

Reader Question: Plastic Surgeon Recommendation in the OC

Do you know a good plastic surgeon for me in the OC?

I wonder if I am spending too much time blogging when I get asked a question like this one….but seriously do you expect me to recommend someone else in my practice’s backyard?

I practice in San Clemente and Orange. :)

In all seriousness, the answer to your question really depends upon what exactly you are looking to have done. I specialize on breast and body work although I also do “skin” work and some facial cosmetic surgery as well. No one “specializes” in everything. You need to do your homework to find the best for your area of choice and budget of course.

Good Booty Liposuction – Orange County, Ca

Here’s a good booty liposuction result:

Good Booty liposuction

This young woman had tumescent liposuction on the sides of her thighs and booty in my South Orange County practice. These areas in the thighs are also referred to as the “saddlebags.” It could also be said that she had saddlebag liposuction. Five weeks afterward she looks nicely improved.

Moderation is the key in good liposuction planning. The results of good plastic surgery withstand the changes of time much better than when we target extremes. She achieved a nice change in shape without rippling and irregularities. This was done safely in a clean operating facility under a short anesthetic.

Good Plastic Surgery in the OC – Quality Breast Reduction

Orange County Breast Reduction Before and After

Six years or so before “A” came for consultation, I had done her friend’s breast reduction. “A” is petite and had some of the common pre-operative complaints that good breast reduction candidates report…upper central back and shoulder pain. She did not enjoy having to “scoop her breasts into a bra every morning” either. Two months after her surgery her pain was gone and her incisions healing well. She is pleased with her good results having had only 220 grams removed per side.

Value Shopping for a Tummy Tuck in Orange County California

It sometimes surprises me how little discrimination patients employ when choosing a tummy tuck surgeon in Orange County. It is clear that many of them know very little about what makes one practice’s service better than that found elsewhere. OK, so what makes for the “best orange county tummy tuck?”

Ignoring the fact that I do these so as to not make this a total piece of SPAM, let’s look at some differences between practices when it comes to tummy tuck surgery. Here are some things about which you can inquire as you research who you will choose to do your tummy tuck in the OC:

(1) Who sees you for your first consultation? – Ideally it would be your prospective surgeon right? If you can’t get face time with him before surgery you gotta wonder about afterward. Some practices have initial consultations done by sharply dressed sales people.

(2) Is your new prospective “Dr X” qualified to perform tummy tuck surgery? Here are a few things you can do to find out.

(3) Who sees you for your post-operative visits? – Again you might like it to be your prospective surgeon. Some practices have follow-up done by techs or nurses. It is cheaper but not equivalent is it?

(4) How many post-operative visits do you have with the doctor? – It takes a while for tummy tuck surgery results to show themselves. There are things to do like the removal of pain pumps and drains. Who does all these things? Who assesses whether you are ready to have these things done for you? Are you expected to remove them yourself?

My point is that you should check out the practice in which you are thinking about having your tummy tuck like you are doing a job interview. You are. Think about is as “Value shopping.”

Breast Reduction in Orange County : Current Status

Breast reduction is misunderstood online. The operation is defined as the reduction and lifting of breasts. This is not the same as removing or reducing the size of breast implants in a woman’s breasts. That is called an implant exchange.

Implants are not usually involved especially when an insurance company is scheduled to pay for it with the possible exception of surgery to reconstruct a woman’s breasts after breast cancer surgery.

It is difficult enough to get most insurers to pay for “clear cut” medically-necessary plastic surgery. Breast reduction surgery is the reduction of naturally enlarged breasts and that is all.

Breast reduction used to be one of the more common insurance-covered procedures in my Orange County plastic surgery practice. With the economy as of late, insurers are not always so quick to approve them, but for the right patient they are still do-able.

Usually we see our patients for a consultation and then apply to their insurers for pre-approval if the cases seems reasonable by insurance company standards. We don’t make the rules on approval, but we do know the game. Appeals are not uncommon.

These days insurers are looking for a certain amount of breast gland to be removed in a certain sized woman in order to allow coverage. In addition they like to see documentation of things like bra strap furrows, the “dents” some larger breasted women get in their shoulders from breasts weighing against them over the day. Insurance pre-approval usually covers surgery for a 90 day period. The exact nature of that coverage varies by the plan.

Insurers don’t tend to like claims is which liposuction has been involved. This can trigger denials on cosmetic grounds at the time of billing. In cases of breast implants in larger breasts, we have staged the surgery to avoid insurance denial. That means taking the implants out in one operation and waiting several months to a year before re-operating for breast reduction. It might sound silly, but again we don’t make the insurer’s rules regarding payment.

Skin Cancer Wound Repair in the OC – Not So Pretty Plastic Surgery

The removal of large skin cancers produces large holes. This patient had Mohs surgery by a dermatologist and appears with a hole in his face from that Mohs surgery. Many people do not know that Mohs surgery is specifically to remove the cancer and has nothing to do with the closure of the wound left afterward. When the problem gets large some patients (and some dermatologists as well) request plastic surgery. This case was operated via my South Orange County office in San Clemente.

Part of plastic surgery can be the repair of otherwise more disfiguring wounds. Sometimes plastic surgery is not cosmetic.
