Jason Segel – Ordered to Lose Weight?

A slimmed-down Jason Segel stopped by the “Late Show With David Letterman” last night and revealed that he was told to lose weight for his role in Universal’s romantic comedy “The Five-Year Engagement.”

“I was forced to lose weight for this movie,” Segel said. When Letterman pressed further about who did the forcing, Segel responded with a laugh, “The studio president.”

“I was told that it had to be conceivable that Emily Blunt would ever choose me to be her husband,” said the star, who added that his weight situation became even more complicated because he portrays a chef and had to eat on camera in many scenes.

Hollywood is unusual in that it gets away with items like this that wouldn’t fly in the “real world.” Try to say something like you are too fat to someone working for you and see that person in court.

Then again the camera makes you look heavier. I have seen this myself as I have looked a bit chubby in some of the opportunities that I have had to get in front of one. :)

For those who have surmised that lipo might have something to do with this, lipo rarely results in much weight loss. It can slim you down in some hard to slim areas though.

Gemma Ward to Quit Modeling Over Weight

Source: stylelist.com/2009/11/09/gemma-ward-quitting-modeling-over-weight-gain-comments

Stylist posted a story about Gemma Ward who is reportedly quitting modeling over her weight. I think if she can find modeling jobs, she should be able to work. On the other hand, if her weight makes her unsuitable for a particular modeling job, then that’s the breaks. Models tend to be pretty thin these days.

No, for those who are twitching their “flame” mouse fingers, I am not making a comment on her suitability for plastic surgery. This one is about weight.

Exercise Instead of Breast Reduction/Lift?

Women sometimes are sold on the idea that exercises will lift their breasts so breast reduction or breast lift surgery can be avoided.

Exercise can lead to weight loss and weight loss can hep reduce breast fullness. This will not lift the breasts however. Sometimes weight loss will make the breasts sag more, but it will not lift them. Exercise does not tighten the skin. If your trainer is telling you exercise will lift your breasts, find another trainer.

I usually recommend that my patients get their weight into a range that they can maintain, then consider whether or not surgery might be a good thing for them.

Reader Question – Liposuction for Weight Loss?

I’m 110lbs over normal weight. I can’t seem to lose the weight. Is lipo a good idea for me? Besides my weight I’m healthy.

Liposuction is not a “cure” for weight problems. By the way you phrased your question it looks like that is your main goal. You are better off losing weight and getting into a stable range and then using liposuction for fine tuning if at all.

Overweight patients who have liposuction tend to put the weight back on and lose far less than they had hoped when all is said and done. Their remaining fat cells simply overfill with fat and/or new areas that were not problematic before surgery are recruited for more fat storage after surgery.

The bottom line is that really overweight patients who have lipo tend to gain the weight back later. Look elsewhere.

Student Makes Life-Size Barbie – Blames for Body Dysmorphism

Galia Slayen, the student who transformed the iconic Mattel toy into a life-size replica model, says that Barbie’s build helps accelerate “a drive for thinness,” claiming that the doll was one of many factors in her own personal struggle with body image and an eating disorder.

We have discussed Barbie, the doll that has been blamed for much that is wrong with body image in America before. We discussed a woman who supposedly was inspired by Barbie to have a good deal of plastic surgery. How many of our own problems can we really blame on anyone (or thing) other than ourselves though?

This time a student re-created a life size Barbie, which seems to have a small head by my view, to blame it in part for her problems with body image. A person who identifies with a piece of plastic to the extent that that relationship drives behavior is a bit on the questionable side I think. Where were her parents during this time? While political correctness calls upon us to consider this woman a victim, I think we need to accept personal responsibility for our actions and not point fingers everywhere (and at everyone) other than ourselves.

Than again, this might have just been a publicity stunt.

Ricki Lake Looks Great

Ricki Lake lost over 125 pounds and looked great on the cover of US Weekly. She is over that “golden hundred” pounds, so I suspect that she may have had a gastric bypass to get there. Congratulations to her on her accomplishment. Anybody seen pics of her lately?
